Here's a very quick troubleshooting guide if students are having trouble turning on or logging into their Chromebooks after summer break. I have also posted this on the library page under "Tutorials" so you don't have to keep finding this email every time one of your students has a problem (School website > "Students" tab > "Library" > "Tutorials").
I will probably add more scenarios later, but these are the 2 most common I'm encountering as summer ends and school starts up again.
Chromebook won't turn on
- Plug it in with its charger and wait a minute for it to get some juice.
- Press and hold the Power and Refresh keys at the same time for a couple seconds. (The Refresh key is the little circular arrow above the '4'.)
- Release the keys at the same time.
- Wait about 30 seconds (up to a minute) and it should begin to boot up.
If it doesn't boot up, wait a minute and try the above procedure again. If it still doesn't reboot after 2-3 tries, bring the Chromebook to the library.
WiFi won't connect / Login isn't working
- Sign out of the Chromebook completely.
- Make sure to "Remove account" by clicking the down arrow next to your name on the login screen.
- Click "Shut Down" and let the Chromebook power down completely.
- Wait 1 minute.
- Turn power on, and log on.
Note: Over the summer 2023, the DOE did a reset on student passwords. If you had changed your password from the default, it was reset to the default. See the librarian if you do not remember the original password.
